When you really think about it, all the tails on anthro animals would be considered scientifically vestegial, as the tail helps an animal balance and hence why primates lack it.
Despite this, it is still an admirable trait on furrybait characters.
Yes I’m continuing this on a different side blog but the idea of anthro animals needing a tail fascinates me as a furry “analyst.”
We don’t need to put the animal tails and other anatomical features on an anthropomorphized animal, yet we do and we like it. Furries as a whole are interesting for many other reasons, but this little thing is partially why I have a hard time coining primates as furrybait. There is usually no significant furry attributes on an animal that has the ability to learn like a human in the wild. To me, it’s like saying Tarzan is a furry for accepting animals as his parents or Mowgli is furrybait, because he is adopted by the animals of the jungle.
Also consider that with all the giant naughty-bits we put on furries maybe the tail’s original use for assisting balance is in fact necessary and no longer vestigial
