Like, we tend to be hasher and meaner to progressive media messing up/not being perfect and it’s legit an issue many DON’T know they have, we do the same with people, sadly.
Like, we can pardon a media made by/or for white/ cishet to fuck up on anything and we still eat it up, and if a white/cishet makes a mistake we can shrug it off easily.
But when its progressive media or a queer/person of color then we suddenly put everything they do under a bullseye.
And I’m not trynna dismiss SU’s issues bc I know is not a perfect show and I know it has a lot to work on but it’s true that we are harsher on it because many of us expected it to be a perfect ideal show, when it was never marketed as such.
I cannot tell you WHY particularly but I think is our internalized desperate need to be accepted and seen as good people in order to not be discriminated.
We’ve been demonized for so long that, internally, we think the only way to break that is to be seen as ideal and flawless.
