Am I the only person here who think that “The Prince From The Dark” is NOT actually Ralsei BUT Lancer.
Ralsei say he is a Prince but he is a boss Monster ans I’m not sure the peoples of the Dark are Monster, he have no other “Royal” Family and, kingdom is empty and he speaks of the heroes as if he were not part of it.
“I will protect the heroes with my life” – he said
Lancer is a Prince, his father is a (the) King and he have a Kingdom full of Peoples BUT he is an enemy (in the begining of the Chapter 1) so Ralsei put on a disguise and play the Prince From The Dark’s role.
The true enemy “The Knight” is not beaten in the end of the chapter 1 so Lancer will surely resume his role of hero in a next chapter.
Adding to this, the depiction of the prince in that picture doesn’t have a snout and has flames surrounding them. For each hero, it seems to show their weapon (sword, axe, magic). The other two depictions were very accurate – why is Ralsei shown differently? It doesn’t make sense. Even if he thinks that the Pacify/Support spells are more of a weapon against enemies, it’s shown that the spells only summon a spark of light.
Not a flame.
There is a circle of light that could be interpreted as fire, however it’s not detailed and doesn’t behave like fire.
^first frame (the only portion that looks like fire)
^next frame- Where did the flames go? Why didn’t they flow upward?
On the other hand, if he’s a boss monster like Toriel, Asgore, and Asriel, then we can infer that he’ll be able to do fire magic. Like Toriel, Ralsei is able to heal. So it’s not big of a leap to think that boss monsters in this world have the same powers as ones in Undertale. However, it’s interesting how he uses his scarf to attack instead…
Also interesting to note is Lancer’s first appearance.
It doesn’t appear to be fire magic, but fire is a bit more associated with Lancer at this point than Ralsei, who had nothing to associate him with it. Maybe we’ll see Lancer develop that fire magic in later chapters.
or maybe im overanalysing and ralsei’s just not a big enough boy to know how to burn enemies
😔
Still. Doesn’t explain why the picture doesn’t have his snout. If it’s because Toby Fox wanted his boss monster appearance to be a surprise, it’s still an odd choice because his snout is clearly visible on the walking sprite.
i would really like to hop on the “lancer is a possible prince of the dark” train so i would like to point out that:
//Who are the first THREE characters we see when we arrive in the dark world?//
1) it’s Kris, who we control, the human
2) Susie, the monster
3) ….. the third character is LANCER. who really fits the title of a prince.
only after we see lancer we meet ralsei:
//ralsei doesnt have a “X JOINS THE TEAM” message that, however, appears when SUSIE and LANCER join// (even if its kind of been used as a comical effect)
ralsei DIDNT get such a moment:
(though. when you save by using the light…)
(… its still very different)
//visually, who’s place does lancer mirrors when he follows you in the corridor after joining the team?//
