imagine dirk getting really attached to all the consorts, kid grew up in the middle of nowhere with only seagulls for company and even though theyre the worst birds outside of bin chickens, i bet he loved them, bet he fed them, bet he took more than one selfie of one sitting on his head and sent it to his friends pretending to be exasperated or even cross but really he was squeeing
so when he is surrounded by varied animals, animals that have a vague level of intelligence (john’s salamanders talked to him and dave’s nakodiles both traded stocks and read rose’s messages to dave) he fucking loves them
except dave doesn’t …. dave maybe has some issues with the nakodiles
it’s not his fault! terezi said he had to get boondollars and his land had a stock exchange (for some reason) and he managed to cheat the system with his time powers. maybe in retaliation for this or just out of general instinct, the nakodiles tried to cook him alive, something i think we can agree isn’t a thing most people want to go through. so maybe he sees this and he’s …….. unsure to say the least
