did people just forget that not only has tf2 had loot boxes for 7 years they even made you pay $2.50 a pop to open the ones you earned through gameplay

you still have to open boxes for chances at the really good items. or yknow, pay upwards of 60 bucks for em.

That’s one thing I really didn’t get when anybody brought up those sort of arguments, like yeah the lootbox thing was taken to the sky when publishers saw Overwatch was making the bucks off of that, but are people forgetting that stuff like TF2, CS:GO and Dota2 had those sort of things straight up? That if anyone wanted a purple AWP they’d either have to gamble from opening specific crates that were discontinued months ago so you’re not only paying for the crate on the market but also the key to open the damn thing, or buy the green AWP off of the market at a high price of 200$, or have enough junk in your inventory that 3 blue Tec-9s, a shiny NOVA and twelve battled-scared nuclear Sawed-Offs can be about the good price to trade in for that purple flurp AWP.

Honestly hell that stuff’s so much worse, lootboxes got nothing on this scum.

tf2 is free to play though, so it’s not like you’re paying $60 for a game and then having to buy shit on top of that. i very much don’t like the idea of involving gambling and shit in games bc it’s scummy as hell, but at least tf2 doesn’t make you pay for a whole game upfront AND milk ur dick for every last drop of cum ur willing to spend on getting the cool extra bits. imo it’s not rly comparable to OW or the star wars game, but it is a conversation to be had on its own.

additionally, do you see those little 1′s next to each of those items?

this is a picture of the COMMUNITY MARKET. those 1′s means that only one person is selling them. not valve. the 1′s are just jackasses who say “i have this rare item that nobody else has, which means I get to set the price stupid high”.

the most expensive thing you can buy FROM VALVE is a $100 in-game wedding ring which sends a message to EVERY SINGLE PERSON PLAYING TF2 at the time that says you gave the ring to somebody. you cannot actually buy ultra-rare items from valve directly. any sales of those items go towards the people selling them. the tf2 market is run by the community, not valve.
