the princess bride is exactly what a dnd campaign would look like as a movie like? the delightfully weird cast of characters with their own quirks, the strange pacing and narrative that still Works, the absolute absurdity of it all, the jumping back and forth between wanting to be serious and it being really funny, hell its even Told like a dnd story through the use of the grandfather being the one telling the story
what a fantastic fucking movie
also like the character backstories are SUCH dnd backgrounds like? “im out for revenge for my father who was killed by a guy with six fingers on one of his hands” “i bumped into a band of pirates and their leader liked me so much he ended up having me take on his title to retire”
that is the Exact shit that people come up with for dnd characters
DM: having narrowly escaped Humperdinck, you find yourselves in the dangerous Fire Swamps
Westley: do I know anything about this area? Any danger?
DM: roll a history check
Westley: 15
DM: you know of rumors of giant rats in the swamps, as well as quick sand
Westley: what do I know about the giant rats?
DM: roll nature
Westley: [nat 1] …… rodents of unusual size? I don’t think they exist
oh you think your life is hard? try being a gay rat living in france who hates your dad and just wants to cook
remy didn’t hate his dad, they had a cultural gap because remy was being raised in a new world where things could be done differently and remy’s dad had tried those avenues and failed… he was only trying to protect his son. remy understood that even if he didn’t obey, and he wouldn’t blame his father for trying to do what was best for everyone. hate is a strong word and i implore you not to put it in the mouths of others. y’all projectin
The Black Footed cat is the smallest wild cat in Africa and one of the smallest wild cats in the world.
Here’s an adult kitty for size comparison:
too smoll
OK but you can’t mention my all-time favorite cat without also mentioning that these little motherfuckers are legendary for being 1000% ready to throw down with anyone at any time, they’ve literally been seen trying to fight a giraffe and are known to successfully bring down sheep by getting underneath them and ripping their bellies open like what the fuck, chill
Their name in Afrikaans means “anthill tiger” because they’ll hide inside a hollowed out anthill and then jump out and try to rip your face off
Relationships get so bananas when you start deciphering the other person’s love language.
Like I thought I was just acquaintances with this person because they never told me details about themselves and we just talked movies and writing . But then they made time to have coffee with me and they showed up out of breath because they ran. Like. RAN to be on time for coffee with me?
And I was like “i don’t mind waiting” cause I never want to run
But they said they wanted every minute they could get because I’m so busy usually
Which is when it clicked that I didn’t get how much they considered me a friend because I just straight away didn’t see MY signs of affection in them and went “cool! Casual buds it is.” But now that I’m seeing their signs of affection, I feel a little silly for dismissing them like that even though I felt like we could be best bros.
Anyway, some people show affection through time or intensity or commitment and not vocally. I really have to remember that!
(I decided to make a new version of this post because the first one was too long and wasn’t getting any notes.)
I’m posting this on behalf of a really sweet school friend of mine who had to drop out of our program this semester due to her girlfriend’s extreme medical issues.
In summary: Amber has fibrous dysplasia, a rare disease that causes painful tumor-like masses and lesions on her bones. She and her girlfriend Marcela have been seeking treatment here in Tucson, but they’ve been subjected to medical neglect and homophobic harassment from the medical care team that is supposed to be “helping” them.
This is what Amber has written on her fundraising page:
Hello and good afternoon, My name is Amber Owens I am currently located in Tucson Arizona to find treatment and care for the disease that I have been diagnosed with. The doctors I have been dealing with unfortunately will not take the time to research and properly help me further. My neurologist has refused to even give me any medications to help with the excruciating pain I have to endure on a daily basis. Time and time again he’s asked me how my pain is, but then just tells me that he will do nothing for it until I have a surgery that I myself and a Doctor I have showed my case to definitely agrees against. The last time I saw him he refused to give me anything and insisted I leave with an over the counter topical cream. This neurologist has a neurosurgeon friend that also backs up this surgery and “will snip my nerve with no feeling in face but you’ll feel nothing”. I fear for my life having this case in the hands of doctors who simply just don’t care.I really have nothing else to do and I am starting to give up hope. To finally get some help we’ve found a few doctors and clinics in Seattle Washington that I need to get to by December. Unfortunately due to the pain and pressure I cannot travel via plane.. which is why I need help from all of you. I have to drive all the way there and right now I don’t have the funds to do so. Help me find help. Thank you everyone.
Marcela is herself disabled (she struggles daily with pain and exhaustion due to her fibromyalgia) but her devotion to helping her partner has been selfless. Amber’s tumor is on the back of her head and has greatly affected her vision, and she is unable to do much on her own without Marcela’s help.
Amber and Marcela are trying to raise $2,500 to drive from Tucson to Seattle by December. There are doctors who can help her there, and she cannot fly in her current condition.
